Garnishment: Handling special situations

Employer-required payments and garnishments

If you require your employees to make certain payments through their paychecks (such as uniform fees), some orders allow those payments to be exempt from garnishment. Contact us and we'll set up your account so that you can enter the amount that should be exempt.

Garnishment based on gross wages

We calculate the amount available to withhold for certain garnishments based on the employee's disposable income. Disposable income is the amount of an employee's income that's left after taking out taxes and exempt deductions (as defined by the order). If your state defines the order based on gross wages, contact us to set that up.

Garnishment as a voluntary agreement

Sometimes your employee and the garnishing agency make a voluntary agreement about the amount to withhold each pay period. In this case, contact us and we'll help you set up the garnishment as a voluntary deduction.

Garnishment with different amounts for different items

If a child or spousal support order lists different amounts such as “current child support” or “past-due child support,” set them up as separate garnishments.
