Thanks for choosing our payroll service! If you're a payroll pro most of this topic won't apply to you, but check out the sections on mobile apps and on setting preferences. If you're new to payroll, welcome!

Learn about the basics of payroll

There's a huge amount of information in our Introduction to Payroll and Taxes (Payroll 101). If you want to know how payroll generally works, and what our service does, this is a great way to educate yourself.

First steps

When you start out with our payroll service, these are some tasks you might need to do:

• Learn three basic tasks of payroll
• Pay employees
• Make a tax payment
• Add a new employee
• Add a contractor
• Set up direct deposit for your company
• Set up vacation and sick policies for all employees
• Set up more ways to pay employees, like overtime, tips, or commission pay
• Find and enter your state employer account number (EIN or EAN)

Check your preferences

It's always a good idea to check out your preferences.With our payroll service, you can choose options for email reminders, paycheck steps, and print settings:

1. Go here.
   (Or choose Setup > Preferences.)
2. Step through the tabs and make your changes.

Ways to get help

If you're not sure what to do, search the online help for instructions (the search box is above on the top-right). You can also search our payroll service Community to see whether someone has asked a question similar to yours.
