Set up classes

Let's say that you have an employee that bids on new jobs. For this service you charge a flat rate of $1000. You would like to track not only which project you have bid on, but the employee who worked on the project. When you charge the client for the $1000, all you need to do is assign a class to the service.

1. Click the Account Settings tab.
2. Click Edit to the right of Classes in the Payroll Tracking section.
   
   

   

3. From the Turn on class tracking page, click Continue.

Next you can add, edit and assign default classes to your employees.

1. Click the Account Settings tab.
2. Click Edit to the right of Classes in the Payroll Tracking section.
3. Click Add a new class.
4. Enter the class name and then click Save.
   
   

1. Click the Employees tab.
2. Click the employee's name.
3. Click Edit in the Employment section.
4. Select the employee's default class from the Default class drop-down.
5. Click Save.
   
   

1. Click the Payday tab.
2. Select who you'd like to pay.
3. Click the hours or salary pay to open the compensation and tracking info box in the Enter Compensation section.
   
4. Select the desired class from the Class drop-down.
5. Enter hours and compensation.
6. Click Save.
   
   

   

1. Click the Account Settings tab.
2. Click Edit to the right of Classes in the Payroll Tracking section.
3. Click Active next to the class name.
4. Select Inactive.
5. If you want to delete the class, select the Do you want to permanently delete this class? checkbox.
6. Click Save.
   
   

   

When you permanently delete a class, it no longer appears:

• On the Classes page when you show active or inactive classes.
• On the Employment page when you select a default class for employee.
• When you filter classes in reports.
• When you create a paycheck for an employee.

The following reports allow you to sort by class:

• Payroll Summary
• Payroll Details
• Workers' Compensation
