Record a tax payment you made outside QuickBooks Online Payroll

To record a tax payment for a prior tax period (for a tax that no longer appears in the list of due taxes:

1. In the left navigation bar, click Taxes > Payroll Tax. Then click Enter Prior Tax History.
2. Click Add Payment.
3. Enter the required payment information.

   Make sure you choose a Tax Type before choosing a Liability Period.

4. Click OK.

If you've already paid a tax, but the tax payment still appears due, you might have paid the tax outside of QuickBooks Online Payroll (for example, by mailing a check to the tax agency). You can record the tax payment in QuickBooks Online Payroll to remove the tax payment reminder.

To record a tax payment:

1. In the left navigation bar, click Taxes > Payroll Tax. Then click Pay Taxes.
2. On the Pay Taxes page, click Record payment for the tax you want to pay.

   If the tax you want to pay no longer appears on the Pay Taxes page, see recording a tax payment for a prior tax period. If the tax you want to pay no longer appears on the Pay Taxes page, see Record a tax payment for a tax from a prior tax period, above.

3. For the Payment Date, select Other and enter the actual date the payment was made.
4. Enter the check number.
5. Click Record and print.
6. If you see the Print Payment Coupon, you can ignore it because you've already made your payment.
7. To verify that your tax payment was recorded:

   Click the Employees tab and choose Taxes & Forms. In the Overview screen, click the link in View Tax Payments you have made. In the navigation bar, click Reports. Then click All Reports > Manage Payroll > Payroll Tax Payments.In the left navigation bar, click Reports, All Reports, Manage Payroll, and then Tax Payments.
