Statutory holiday pay

Statutory holiday pay is compensation for holidays, like Christmas Day, when many businesses are closed. Employees may be allowed to take the day off with pay, or earn a higher rate of pay for the time they work.

When a pay period includes a statutory holiday, enter the stat. holiday pay hours in your employees' pay cheques.

Statutory holiday pay is mandatory in Canada, so we turn the pay type on for you. You don't have to add stat. holiday pay as a pay type unless you turned it off when you first set up your employee.

To add statutory holiday pay as a pay type for an employee:

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Employees.
  2. Click the employee's name.
  3. Under How much do you pay this employee? click Add additional pay types if you haven't selected any other pay types, or click the pencil icon if you have.
  4. Select the Stat. Holiday Pay checkbox.
  5. Click Done.

The next time you create a pay cheque for the employee, the Stat. Holiday pay column appears. Make sure you repeat these steps for any other existing employees who receive holiday pay.
