Fill out a new W-4 to adjust withholdings

An employee who is over- or underwithheld for any reason can fill out a new W-4 to adjust withholding for the remainder of the year. If an employee is overwithheld, they have the option to leave the withholding as-is and then wait for a refund after filing their personal tax return.

Print a new W-4 form

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Taxes > Payroll Tax. Under Forms, click Employee Setup.
  2. Find Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate, and then click W-4.
  3. Click View.
  4. Move your mouse around the bottom of the PDF until you see the toolbar.
  5. Click the printer icon to print the form.

When your employee gives you a new W-4

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Employees.
  2. Click the employee's name, and then click Edit employee.
  3. Under What are this employee's withholdings?, click the pencil icon.
  4. Enter the changes in the W-4 form, and then click Done.

Taxes going forward are withheld based on the new W-4 information.
